Water Fasting – How to do Water Fasting
During water fasting you have to drink only water through out the day. It is one of ways to detoxify your body. When you stop taking solid food for a day and drink only water, the body shifts its focus from digestion and restores bodily balance by eliminating wastes. In this article, we shall know how to do water fasting for one day (24 hours).
There are 3 stages to do water fasting.
1) Preparing to Fast
One need to prepare both physically and mentally for fasting. It may look difficult, but take following steps:
- Make a firm resolution the night before the fasting day that you will drink only water no matter how much hunger strikes.
- Write it on a paper to get more firmness in you decision.
- Eat normal amount of food the day before fasting. Never overeat thinking that to be the storing food for the fast. This may cause more hunger pains and you will be more inclined to have food the next day.
2) The Fasting Day
Once you are prepared for water fasting, make sure that you have good amount of hygienic drinking water with you. It is best to limit your physical tasks on this day as it helps to concentrate on fasting as much as possible. The best thing is be introspect and try involving in spiritual activities like chanting mantras or reading divine literature. This is the constructive way of using the fasting period.
- Get connected to God. Meditate on God. Spend some time on thinking how far is God from you. What you can do to go nearer to God. What areas in your life you like to improve and so on.
- If you get a signal of hanger pang, go and have a full glass of water. Keep having whenever you like to have it.
- Another thing is talk less on this day. Keep a grave attitude reminding your resolution of successful fasting.
- Keep your mind engaged in higher thoughts. This will help you not to concentrate on hunger calls of the body. The best way not to even receive the hunger signals is to read some literature that makes you completely engrossed.
3) Breaking Fast
Fasting is beneficial if you break fast in the right manner. Do not break fast with a full-course meals. No. It is not a healthy method to so. You may end up in getting stomach cramps. Water fasting can be best broke by drinking fruit juices or glucose water. Drinking lemon juice is also a good method to break fast.
- Wait for approximately 4 hours after having juice. Then have some soup or light salad with lime.
- You can resume your regular eating habits from the second day of fasting. Of course eat conservatively, so that you realize the benefits of water fasting.
